Explore the Dales

Home / Explore

Discover the cobbled streets of Grassington and visit our unique galleries, artists and boutiques offering original gift ideas, or stroll along the river and see the spectacular Linton Falls.

Grassington is situated on the Dales Way trail and on our doorstep are iconic places to see, among them Kilnsey Crag, Malham Cove, the magnificent river-side Bolton Abbey and the medieval Skipton Castle.

Grassington was a thriving metropolis in the 1800’s when the lead-mining trade boomed and many of the cottages were built to house the workers who flocked here to work.

"I’ve never seen a countryside to equal in beauty the Yorkshire dales”.

The classic English playwright J B Priestly
High above the village on the moors is the fascinating historic lead-mining trail where you can still see the remains of this hard-earned social history.

Rolling green hills chequered by ancient stone walls and limestone pavements inhabited only by shaggy sheep create a breathtaking landscape.
This is magnificent walking, riding, climbing, caving, shooting and fishing country, with picturesque Dales stone-built villages to explore, caves to visit and heritage to discover
The hotel can organise activities for you including horse riding, cycle hire, fly fishing and shooting. Our local health spa at Long Ashes offers a swimming pool, gym and therapy treatments or you can enjoy a beauty or massage treatment in Grassington and even in your hotel room on request.
